My Haul From Gen Con 2011

Here is everything that I bought at Gen Con this year minus a t-shirt that I bought for my wife.

The spoils of war (if war was a bunch of gamers hanging out peacefully that is).

Starting at the top left corner and working my way down here is what everything is and why I bought it:

1. 20 10mm d6 dice with pips. 4 white, 4 black, 4 blue, 4 green, and 4 red. These have already been converted into Fudge dice using the Baby’s First Fudge Dice method so that I have them in my travelling gamer’s/GM’s kit.
2. Hamlet’s Hit Points by Robin D. Laws. I have heard nothing but good things about this book and I have enjoyed reading snippets of it when others have shown me their copies. Plus I met Robin D. Laws at the con, and he was such a nice guy that I wanted to send some more of my cash his way.
3. Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple by Daniel Solis. I have been watching this game develop over time and I have been very intrigued by the concept that you are a young person trying to help others who have written about their problems in a letter to the temple. I don’t know, it just sounds so different that I want to give it a shot. Plus I interviewed Daniel Solis with fellow gnome Phil Vecchione of Gnome Stew when he agreed to a last minute request from me. See? Be nice to me, and I’ll buy your stuff.
4. 2 Lego Heroica games. These are going to be the games that the next generation of role players start out with. Really simple rules, and a completely modular system. I can’t wait until my kids and I play these together.
5. Beneath the Heroica games that long white strip of what looks like flat blocks is one of Hammerdog Game’s “The World’s Greatest Screen” which takes 4″ x 6″ inserts. With my whole index card centric design strategy right now it was a no-brainer to buy it! Thanks to Nik Palmer for spotting it and tweeting about it to me while he was in the dealer’s hall at Gen Con (you should follow him on Twitter – @sponng).
6. That CD is the digital copy of the new Savage Worlds Deluxe Edition and it is a game that lives up to its tagline of “Fast, furious, and fun!” ‘Nuff said!
7. The next 2 items are DVDs from Fat Dragon Games. One is their Winterhawk Castle Base Set, and the other is their E-Z Future Deluxe Edition, and both are loaded with PDFs for making cardstock terrain with. If you have never made cardstock terrain it is a wonderful and relaxing hobby, and it results in some great games if you use miniatures.
8. The last four items are all old RPG books that I bought in a “buy one, get three free” deal. The first three are books from the now out of print Last Unicorn Games Star Trek series. One is the first volume of their “Neutral Zone” adventures for the Star Trek: The Next Generation setting, another is the “Narrator’s Toolkit” for the original Star Trek series, and the last is the “Narrator’s Toolkit” for the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine series. I bought these because I want to run a, you guessed it, Star Trek game in the near future. The last book is West End Games D6 System, and I bought that one because I love to have open game systems to analyze and play. All 4 of these books cost me $16 total, so I’m sure that I will get my money’s worth out of them!
