Cooking for the Gaming Group? Get a Pressure Cooker!
Not much to say today except that if you are the type of person who likes to cook a big meal for your gaming group you want to invest in a pressure cooker. There are many simple recipes for pressure cookers that taste great, are easy on the budget, and that make excellent meals for large groups. The best part is that you can fully cook large portions in very little time without a lot of work.
There are some things you need to keep in mind when using a pressure cooker. The first is that you do not put oil in it. You need a pressure fryer for that, otherwise you are making a large oil bomb and putting it onto your stovetop. Do not tempt fate with this rule. Don’t use oil in a pressure cooker unless the instruction specifically says that you can and never more than what is the recommended maximum (mine allows up to a 1/4 of a cup).
The other big thing is that you do need to use more caution with a pressure cooker because you can scald yourself or others if you forget to vent the steam, or if you vent it improperly. Just follow the instructions for your pressure cooker to the letter and you will be fine.
That said, I am now sold on the pressure cooker as the best way to make great homemade meals in record time. The pressure cooker is like a slow cooker on steroids, and the meals that I have made with it are fantastic. Try these recipes in particular if you have the chance:
- Macaroni & Cheese – My wife and kids loved it! My pressure cooker does not have a “rice” setting like the recipe calls for, but cooking the noodles for 15 minutes at medium high heat worked fine.
- Pulled Pork – I rarely eat red meat or pork anymore, so when I do I want it to be a special treat. This was special! Everyone loved it, and it is great for sandwiches.
Not the healthiest meals, but as a once a week treat they rock! And if you want healthier food then vegetables in a pressure cooker or the way to go. They practically melt in your mouth when served!
If I come across any more great recipes for the pressure cooker, for feeding hungry gaming groups, or both I will share them with all of you here. If you have a great gaming group recipe (pressure cooker or not) share it with all of us by leaving a comment below.
Awwww. I thought this was some sort of gaming “gear” or technique.
Yet, pressure cookers are pretty neat. 🙂
@jlcsusara: Sorry to disappoint! 🙂
I want to be a little bit more diverse with the content on this blog. I’m not getting a lot of unique visitors, and I want to try to appeal to more gamers in general. Yet I still want to keep the primary focus on Fudge. The more gamers I get to read a post on pressure cooking means more opportunities to hook them into Fudge as well.
You’ll like tomorrow’s post though if you want more stuff directly related to RPGs.
