My Only Project From Now Until It Ships
So what is the project that I am putting every other project on hold for?
A workbook.
I am designing a 32 page campaign design workbook. It breaks a campaign down into 16 unique sessions. Every 4 sessions can be considered a chapter in a story or an act in a play. Each of these chapters/acts is an adventure unto itself, but when chained with the other 3 you have about 4 months worth of gaming.
The workbook will take a GM through the campaign design process to create a beginning, middle and end to each part as well as the campaign as a whole. So each session has a complete feel to it, while each adventure also feels complete on a larger scale. Finally, the four adventures combine to tell one very large and complete story.
There will also be a player feedback form to handout at the end of each session, so that you can use that feedback to design the next session with.
That is the only thing that I will be working on from now on. How is this going to relate to Fudge? Short answer: It isn’t related to Fudge at all. I will be posting about a series of Fudge games that I use to play test the design with though, so you can expect more Fudge game related posts in the future.
What do you think? Would a product like this one appeal to you? If so, why? If not, why? Leave a comment below and let me know what your opinion is.
I would be interested in something like this. My only adjustment would be to include some advice for altering the format from a 4×4 campaign to something more flexible. What if my campaign idea requires 5 adventures, for example? Then I would need a 5×4 format, if I kept the adventures at 4 sessions each. Obviously, I could figure out how to make that change myself, and I’m not asking you to necessarily do it for me. I just think a section addressing such possibilities would be nice.
@assatur: There is a section in the outline titled “Changing the Formula” that addresses exactly what you are referring to. The product will be written to support the formula that I described, but I believe that it would only require a page or two to explain how anyone can adjust that formula. My hope is that people use the product once as written, and then that they change one part of the formula each subsequent time that they use the product.
I think this could be great.
There are two things I’d love to see in a product like this, but I’m not sure how to word it. The first is actually straightforward: A template for the notes you need to run your session, adventures, and campaign. Second, I’d like to see a more in depth look at structuring sessions to include a good mix of various encounters. For example, I’d like to see recommendations on things like what makes a good social, skill, and combat encounter. Also, how many of each are a good fit for lets say, a 4 hour session.
